Plant-based meats are taking over supermarket shelves, the stock market, and now… Subway? Finally having something to add into those plain veggie sandwiches sounds way too good to be true, but starting this September, the biggest fast food chain in the country is partnering with Beyond Meat to add a meaty plant-based option to its menu.
Keeping up with demand and other fast-food chains—such as Burger King, Dunkin’ Donuts, and Little Caesars—it was about time for Subway to offer a plant-based meat option. The new mouthwatering Beyond Meatball Marinara sub features Subway-exclusive Beyond Meatballs on toasted bread, topped with marinara sauce and grated parmesan. To make it vegan, you can easily order it without the cheese.
“Subway appeals to so many fans because we truly offer something for everyone. Our guests want to feel good about what they eat and they also want to indulge in new flavors. With our new plant-based Beyond Meatball Marinara sub, we’re giving them the best of both worlds,” said Len Van Popering, Subway’s chief brand and innovation officer, in a press release. “We are particularly excited about debuting a co-developed product that can’t be found anywhere else: the Beyond Meatball made just for Subway.”
The meatball sub—which is packed with 24 grams of protein per six-inch sandwich!—will be released in 685 restaurants across the United States and Canada for a limited time only. Then after that test period is over, it will hopefully remain on the menu for good. Because let’s be honest—we wan’t more than just a salad on bread.
