Earlier this summer, KFC introduced a vegan crispy chicken burger in the UK, leaving everyone in the United States feeling a little left out. But not anymore. A plant-based fried chicken option has officially arrived, and it’s hitting the Atlanta area tomorrow.
If it feels like you’re dreaming right now, I’m happy to report that you are, in fact, awake. Despite KFC being one of the last places you’d expect to find something vegan on the menu, a new partnership with Beyond Meat is bringing Beyond Fried Chicken to the chain. And get this: There’s nuggets and boneless wings available in six-piece and 12-piece meal options, which cost $6.49 and $8.49, respectively.
“KFC is an iconic part of American culture and a brand that I, like so many consumers, grew up with. To be able to bring Beyond Fried Chicken, in all of its KFC inspired deliciousness to market, speaks to our collective ability to meet the consumer where they are and accompany them on their journey,” said Ethan Brown, founder and CEO of Beyond Meat, in a statement. “My only regret is not being able to see the legendary Colonel himself enjoy this important moment.”
Starting tomorrow, you’ll be able to get your hands on the Beyond Fried Chicken at one location: in Smyrna, Georgia, which is located northwest of Atlanta. Then once the testing period is over, KFC will hopefully rollout the option at KFC restaurants nationwide.
