Since day one, everyone has been completely hooked on the Beyond Burger. And now that obsession is about to grow stronger. Starting this week, Beyond Meat’s flagship product is getting even meatier.
According to a press release, the new-and-improved Beyond Burger uses coconut oil and cocoa butter to create marbling that melts and tenderizes like real beef. Thanks to the plant-based fats, it will be even harder to tell the difference between the faux meat and an actual meat patty during your BBQs: “It creates a texture closer to beef than ever before,” the company writes.
In addition, the new Beyond Burger also has apple extract on the ingredients list, which turns the color from red to brown as you’re cooking it. The protein sources are different, too. Instead of using just pea protein, there’s now a 20-gram blend of pea, mung bean, and rice protein per 4 oz. serving.
So, how will you know if you’re getting the new version of the Beyond Burger at the grocery store? Simple: Look for the bright red “Now Even Meatier” on the top right corner of the label. It started hitting stores yesterday and will be nationwide—including at Whole Foods, Kroger, Target, and Safeway—by the end of the month.
