It’s a great time to go meatless. We now live in a world where you can grab an Impossible Burger in fast food drive-throughs and the Beyond Burger at nearly every supermarket. And the texture and flavors are so on-point that even the carnivores in your life can get down with it. But there’s a new burger coming into the scene to steal some sales: Lightlife just announced it’s releasing its own option to take on the traditional beef burger.
Lightlife—a true OG of the plant-based game, as it’s been around since the late ‘70s—has been bringing you super-realistic veggie sausage, tempeh, hot dogs, and bacon over the years that can easily fool your taste buds into thinking it’s the real deal. Now, the company is introducing the Lightlife Burger: a vegan burger that’s free of GMOs, gluten, soy, and artificial flavors.
According to a press release, each burger contains 20 grams of protein. In comparison, the Beyond Burger contains 20 grams of pea protein and the Impossible Burger contains 19 grams of wheat, soy, and potato protein. Like the Beyond Burger, the grillable patty will also be found right in the meat aisle: The product is set to hit US grocery stores in late March with other new plant-based products to follow, including bratwursts, Italian sausage, and ground beef.
Is your stomach growling yet? Because mine definitely is.
