Imagine a place where constantly checking nutrition labels has become obsolete. Sounds too good to be true, right? Well, in Portland, Oregon — AKA the United States’ mecca for veganism — this dream has become a reality. The world’s first vegan mini-mall has opened and people are flocking from all over the country to grab their own slice of heaven.
The idea was birthed when four businesses — SweetPea Baking Co., Food Fight! Grocery, Scapegoat Tattoo, and Herbivore Clothing — decided to link up and create a one-stop shop for any vegan needs. Of course they all have cute, clever names (as vegan businesses do!), but their products and services are what really make them stand out.
SweetPea Baking Co. is 100% vegan and whips up anything from cupcakes to croissants daily. And, their treats are so decadent that even your omnivore friends will lust over the sight of them. They still have us wondering how they manage to make a buttery, flakey croissant without any dairy… magic, we’re assuming.
Food Fight! Grocery is made up of a motley crew of vegans who just want to enjoy life while simultaneously saving the planet. Not a big feat, right? Well, lucky for them, they seem to be reaching their goals effortlessly. Food Fight! Grocery has a small produce and bulk section, but they specialize in junk food, like chips, candy, and fake meat and cheese. The store is filled with naughty vegan treats that you may otherwise have never been able to get your hands on.
Next up is Scapegoat Tattoo, and this isn’t just your run-of-the-mill neighborhood tattoo shop. It’s unique in that none of the materials they use in-shop have any animal products in them, including the ink and aftercare. Cheers for not having to sacrifice morals for art!
Last but not least is Herbivore Clothing. The folks at this spot describe themselves as riding bikes, growing food, and doing their best. They sell cruelty-free items, such as vegan leather goods and beauty products that haven’t been tested on animals. They also have a wide selection of vegan slogan tees that any proud, plant-based individual would love to rock.
So, have fun in Portland! We know you’re already booking your flight.
