This year has been filled with news of popular fast food joints adding plant-based meat options to menus, from Burger King’s Impossible Whopper to Dunkin’ Donuts’ Beyond Sausage Breakfast Sandwich. Now, starting today, one is taking things a step further by removing beef completely and replacing it with a plant-based option.
Just Salad—which has locations throughout New York City, Chicago, Philadelphia, Florida, and North Carolina—just announced a new partnership with Beyond Meat that will allow the chain to serve Beyond Meat Meatballs. And as part of the company’s sustainability efforts, that means completely doing away with the grilled steak option.
“We know red meat is incredibly wasteful and has a huge carbon footprint,” Janani Lee, Just Salad’s chief sustainability officer, told Business Insider. “So, we decided to remove grass-fed steak from our menu and replace that with Beyond Meat.”
The next time you head to Just Salad, you can add the meatless meatballs into any wrap or bowl, including the just-released keto zoodle bowl. What a time to be alive.
