Fall is in full swing, and that means lots of sweaters, Halloween, and—maybe the best part—apple orchards. But not just for the apples. Also because it’s usually where you can get your hands on one of the best seasonal treats: apple cider donuts.
While many of the options you’ll find at apple orchards aren’t vegan-friendly, that doesn’t mean you can’t still indulge. You might just have to make a healthy batch of your own at home, and Sarah McMinn, the Portland-based food blogger behind My Darling Vegan, created a recipe that looks even better than the ones you can buy.
While donuts seem tricky to make, her Baked Vegan Apple Cider Donuts are simple. Not only are they filled with tasty and comforting fall spices—including cinnamon, nutmeg, and allspice—but they’re also coated with an apple cider glaze that sounds so much better than the cinnamon sugar coating typically used at orchards.
The only tool you’ll need to make these donuts is a non-stick, six-cavity donut pan, and you can get a two-pack for only $11 on Amazon. After mixing up your ingredients, pouring the batter into the pan, then baking them for about 10 minutes, these treats will be ready to enjoy.
